Meet Jonathan Douglas
We would like to introduce to you our store manager, Jonathan Douglas. Jonathan is also one of our goldsmith, a designer, appraiser & sales associate.
Jonathan is the oldest of Mark & Ruth's six children.
How did you get into the Jewelry Business?
From a very young age Jonathan enjoyed watching his Dad, Mark Douglas, work on jewelry in our basement shop. At the age of 4, when his Dad was not looking, Jonathan decided to copy what his Dad was doing and give stone setting a try. By the time Mark realized that Jonathan was touching stones, settings & tools, Jonathan had set his first diamond into a stud earring mounting! It would have been a great job, had the stone not been set upside down! This was the start of Jonathan’s jewelry career.
How long have you been in the Jewelry business?
Starting from Jonathan’s first stone setting, he has now been in the Jewelry business 36 years. Or if you count from when Jonathan starting going to work at our family owned jewelry store at age 12, he has been in the jewelry business for 28 years. He also sold his first Diamond at age 12.
What are your hobbies & enjoyments?
Besides Jewelry work & working with his hands, Jonathan likes hunting, playing guitar for church worship and working on projects around the house. He can fix almost anything.
Jonathan is married to his wife Heidi, whom he adores along with his six children.
Did you always want to be in the Jewelry Business?
Unlike our other children, Jonathan never worked at Perkins or the local grocery store for his first job, he worked at our family owned jewelry store
When doing his seventh grade writing class assignment in 1998 about what he wanted to be when he grew up, the title was, Why I want to Be A Jeweler
Where did you get your experience & training?
Jonathan said, I got most of my training first hand by watching and being an apprentice under my dad. I also expanded my training by taking GIA’s Diamond courses and taking the jewelry manufacturing and repair course at Minneapolis Technical College.
What do you like best about the retail Jewelry Business now?
Jonathan said, My favorite thing is the joy we bring to customers when we make a new piece or repair their jewelry. Life has many memorable occasions-weddings, birthdays, anniversary’s, love, friendship, appreciation. And we get to help commemorate those special times in life with a beautiful piece of jewelry.
